Emerging Talent

Your top priorities are to learn the craft and kickstart your business.

So you’re new to this whole copywriting thing (maybe you only recently discovered it was “a thing”)… but the good news is that we’ve ALL been there.

Yes, even fancy-pants legit copywriters, c’est moi, didn’t know how to copy at first.

No one just knows. They learn it. Then, they practise and learn some more.

That means there is no reason you can’t become a legit copywriter too – all you need is the know-how and some practice.

You see, I believe that copywriting is a skill (not a talent), which means anyone can learn to write great copy.

Including you!

… Even if you’ve never done it before.

… Even if you don’t think of yourself as a writer.

… Even if you don’t feel creative.

… Even if you don’t enjoy selling.

And it begins with getting well-versed in the foundations of copywriting.

That's Right.

The only thing standing in the way of you and getting paid to write copy every day is a shakey foundation in the craft of writing copy.

And that’s easily fixed.

Start building your toolbox and your biz.

Your Top 5 Priorities

Seriously... this is the bit to pay attention to.

It’s easy to get distracted by All The Shiny Things but as an emerging talent, you need to narrow your focus to accelerate through the tricky first steps.

Seriously... this is the bit to pay attention to.

Zoe started a copywriting business, and so can you

After maternity leave, Zoe Heard couldn’t justify being away from her newborn if she wasn’t doing something she was passionate about.

She’d previously taken a course in digital marketing, which sparked her initial interest in copywriting. Zoe was also devouring Belinda’s Hot Copy podcast on her morning walks to the non-profit job she didn’t enjoy.

“When I was working at the job I hated, I’d say to myself every day, ‘I can’t believe I have to do this again,’” Zoe says.

Zoe had an immediate goal to replace what she could have earned in her part-time role at the non-profit. She signed up for the Copywriting Master Class (now The Copywriting Inkubator) because she knew she needed to improve her copywriting skills and wanted to throw everything she had at the business.

Zoe turned the skills she learned from Belinda into Get Heard — business that now earns her a full-time salary in part-time hours.

What do I know about this copywriting stuff?

Hey, I’m Belinda Weaver (but you can call me Bill) — owner of Copywrite Matters, cohost of the Hot Copy Podcast and massive Dr Who fan.

Before building Copywrite Matters into a successful copywriting business, I spent years developing and implementing marketing strategies. I took many campaigns from idea to execution before realising copywriting was the practice I enjoyed most.

Over the years I’ve learned what works and what doesn’t. As a copywriter, I used that experience to help my clients create unique brands — starting with their copywriting.

Now I share my proven techniques to help copywriters level up their writing skills and their businesses.

Here are a few resources to speed up your learning:

These should help you dig into the craft of copywriting. And I want to quickly leave you a reminder.

Writing great copy is a SKILL, not a TALENT.

That’s mean you can learn it, practise it and get better.

Your job now is to learn it!
