How a tiny bit of personalisation makes a massive impact (and why I love Bonjoro to do it)

Copywriter, Belinda Weaver, smiling, wearing a black hat and jacket, next to text about personalisation's impact and a mention of Bonjoro.

Have you ever signed up for someone’s emails and then promptly forgot who they are?

Maybe you grabbed a freebie in a bundle or signed up for their webinar on a whim. And now, every time their name pops into your inbox, your brain does the digital equivalent of squinting and saying, “Wait… who?”

Not their fault. Not yours either.

It’s just that the moment of introduction lacked something. It didn’t stick.

And that’s a problem because your business thrives on relationships—and first impressions matter more than you think.

Buyer’s remorse is real (and you need to stop it before it starts)

That little ping of doubt that sneaks in right after you hit “buy”?

That’s buyer’s remorse. It happens whether you signs up for a freebie or a $5,000 program. As the excitement fades, the second-guessing kicks in.

And the worst thing you can do in that moment?

Nothing.

Most people send a standard “Welcome!” email, and that’s fine. But it’s also predictable.

And predictability doesn’t build relationships.

The magic of a personal touch

I’ve been using Bonjoro for years because it’s the easiest way I’ve found to add a tiny human moment into a process that would otherwise feel transactional.

Whenever someone joins my membership, buys a template, or signs up for training, they get a quick, personalised video from me.

No fancy production. No “let me fix my hair first.” Just me, saying:

📽 “Hey [actual name], welcome! I’m excited to help you grow your business. Here’s what to do first: [quick tip].”

And people LOOOOVE it.

A collage of heartfelt messages thanking Belinda for personalized video messages. Red hearts are doodled in the corners.

They feel seen.
They feel valued.
They feel confident they made the right choice.

That 30 seconds of effort switches buyer’s remorse for excitement.

And you don’t need a membership or a group program to do this.

How a copywriter (you) can use personal video (without adding to your workload)

Copywriting is personal. It’s emotional. It’s built on trust.

So why would you let your first interaction with a new client feel like a generic, templated email?

Here’s are some ideas on how you (yes, you, the solo copywriter) might use quick, personal videos in your business:

1. Onboarding new clients

Instead of an “Excited to work with you!” email (which, let’s be honest, gets skimmed at best), send a 30-second video:

“Hey [name], thrilled to be working with you! I’ll be diving into your intake form this week, and if you have any questions, just hit reply.”

It makes them feel instantly at ease, like they’re in good hands. And that means fewer panicked emails, fewer ‘just checking in’ messages, and a much smoother start to the project.

2. Mid-project check-ins

Ever had a client disappear for weeks, only to re-emerge at the worst possible moment with “Sorry for the delay, can we still move forward?”

A quick, personal video check-in keeps things moving:

“Hey [name], just checking in on your draft! Let me know if you need any tweaks before we move to the next step.”

It’s a tiny effort that prevents project stalls, ghosting, and ‘oops, I forgot to reply’ situations.

3. Wrapping up a project (and getting testimonials without feeling awkward)

Asking for testimonials can feel like that moment when you send a text that just says “haha yeah” because you have no idea what else to say.

A quick, no-pressure video makes it easy:

“Hey [name], I loved working on this with you! If you have a sec, I’d love to hear your thoughts—no pressure, but a quick testimonial would make my day.”

You can even add some questions and prompts in the caption for the video! Clients want to give great feedback. They just need a nudge. And a video to them makes it feel like a personal request, not an obligation.

4. Keeping past clients warm

Ever had a past client suddenly pop up out of nowhere asking if you have availability?

That’s because you were on their mind at the right time.

A quick video message can make sure that happens more often:

“Hey [name], hope business is booming! Just wanted to check in and see how the copy is performing. Let me know if you need any tweaks!”

No selling. Just a friendly touchpoint.

And guess what? When they do need help, who do you think they’ll contact first?

That’s right. You.

You can’t automate relationships

I’m all for automation. But the biggest impact in business comes from the actions that don’t scale.

✔️ A handwritten thank-you note.
✔️ A genuine reply instead of a canned response.
✔️ A quick video message instead of another email.

Bonjoro makes that human touchpoint effortless. And you don’t have to be “camera ready”.

So your task now? Think about how you can ramp up your personal touchpoints, beyond sending another email.

Because those personal moments—not the perfectly optimised funnel or the clever subject line—is what makes clients will stick around for.

This is the first post in a series I’m doing on the tools I couldn’t live without. I’m part of the Bonjoro ambassador program, and this post includes my affiliate link, but let me be clear: I loooove this app. It’s one of the longest-standing subscriptions I have, and for good reason.

If you want to add a little more you to your client experience, I highly recommend giving it a try.
